Guardian of the Earth: NASA Plans to Establish a Blockchain Data Center on the Moon to Safeguard National Classified Information
In the face of increasing data breaches and growing existential threats on Earth, NASA recently announced an innovative project to explore the possibility of storing important data on the moon. The project will involve multiple partners, including startups Lonestar and the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea, and will utilize blockchain technology to ensure the security of the data.

Artemis Project: Rebuilding Human Existence, Data is Crucial
Due to the frequent data breaches this year and the increasing threats faced by humanity on Earth, NASA has begun planning to establish a data center on the moon. This initiative will be part of the Artemis Project, aimed at testing the feasibility of conducting backup storage on the moon.
Preserving Human Information, Blockchain to Shine on the Moon
NASA's partners include the Florida-based startup Lonestar and the British Crown Dependency Isle of Man. These collaborative projects utilize blockchain technology to ensure data security, prevent tampering, and prove the authenticity of information stored in the files.
It is understood that the test mission is scheduled to launch from the United States in February 2024. Once the Data Cube lands on the moon, partners will "timestamp" the data from Lonestar's data center to prove its origin on the moon, then transmit it back to Earth, record it on the blockchain to verify the data's authenticity.
Kurt Roosen, Head of Innovation at Digital Isle of Man, stated in an interview with BBC Science Focus, "This is a very interesting challenge for us, not only for us but also for NASA."
Isle of Man Post Office Issues Digital Stamps from the Moon
The Isle of Man Post Office is also part of this mission, digitizing some stamps and launching them on the Data Cube. These are not just ordinary stamps; the Isle of Man is collaborating with NASA to create stamps for the next moon landing, which can be sent to Earth.
The Significance Behind the Moon Data Center
The moon data center is not only to protect humanity's most important discoveries and creations from potential disasters on Earth due to climate change. This mission is particularly crucial in the event that Earth becomes uninhabitable.
"Throughout history, we have seen knowledge systems lost or cultures disappear," Roosen said.
He cited the example of the ancient Library of Alexandria in Egypt, which was an astonishing repository of human knowledge but mysteriously destroyed around 500 AD. Today, with the digitization of human knowledge systems and dependence on electricity, the need to protect this critical information is more urgent.
In the future, the data center may store more sensitive national data, including cultural information and financial records crucial to human health.
